| U14 2-1 Vale Reds |
| Chesham squeeze through |
|
Chesham U14's couldnt quite find the rampant form of the last league match, and put in a nervy performance against a lively Vale reds side in the League Cup quarter finals. Sian Hardaker deservedly kept her starting place, Emma Bush returned to the squad. Chesham dominated early posession but quickly realised they couldn't out run Vales spritely defence, so they had to pick their way past them, Annie Burns twice got through on goal only to see her efforts saved well. Vale Reds chances were limited and Kate Elliot dealt well with their efforts. Tireless work from Kristen Bucknall allowed the midfield to support quickly. The introduction of Laura Barton and Suzie Crabbe spurred Chesham on, the two combined and got behind Vales defence, Crabbes cross was met by Bucknall and she steered the ball in for the opener. Chesham continued to have chances but failed to convert. At half time Chesham were kicking themselves for not increasing their lead. Vale Reds mounted a constant onslaught, they battled and ran at Chesham testing the defence to the limit, Bush and Harvey replaced a tiring Burns and Bucknall and the game swung from end to end both teams had chances with good balls being played accross the box but neither team could get on the end of them. As the clock ticked away Vale Reds looked like they wanted it more, and piled on the pressure, Chesham tired and struggled to clear finally and desrvedly Vale nicked an equaliser to take the tie into extra time and the dreaded golden goal. Vale Reds pressed as they had finished the stronger side, some last ditch tackles from Captain Beth Brewer kept the scores equal after the 1st period. With one eye on penalties Bush returned to the pitch, but Chesham didn't need it Hannah Sandy won a ball on the right slid her pass through to Annie Burns who out run her defender and flashed her cross into the 6 yard area with Crabbe bearing down the Vale defender turned the ball into her own net for the unluckiests of exits. |
