Match Report

First preliminary round of the Women’s FA cup, pitched Chesham United Ladies  away at Brentford, the teams met last season in the 2nd prelim when Chesham proved too strong for Brentford. This season Chesham had no matches under the belt and a very light pre season.   Nevertheless they could field a strong squad – a debut for Jo Horwood at the back, otherwise the team retained most players from last season’s successful squad.

It took the visitors 15 minutes to settle and they soon started to dominate possession,  Nat Adams opened the scoring, before minutes later Gemma Fraser embarked on her goal scoring campaign doubling the lead.  Brentford had pace down the right and Chesham looked tentative dealing with Brentford attacks.

A good strike from Kirsty Gladwin made it three, at times showed flashes of their old selves as they cut through Brentford one move saw Niamh Eumans link up well with Adams and put a great cross in which Fraser tucked away.

The interval saw Euman replaced by Gemma Darvill, and a debut for forward Barbara Balint replacing Tash Smith.  Chesham took a while to settle back in to their rhythm, they looked tired and leggy but managed to dig deep, a  mix up saw them concede a consolation to Brentford who at times played some excellent football.

Mid way through the half Fraser wrapped up her hatrick,  before releasing Balint to score on her debut, with a nicely taken finish.    With minutes remaining Fraser flicked up the ball and smashed a volley in to round up the scoring against a tiring Brentford team.

Squad : Masella, Horwood, Campbell, Harris, Delves, Gladwin, Euman (Darvill) Lambert, Smith (Balint) Fraser Adams
