Match Report

Chesham moved to the top of the Southern Region Premier League, with a comfortable 4-1 against a previously unbeaten Winchester team.  Kat Bowers was given her first start in 18 months, and Campbell returned to defence with Horwood moving into midfield.

Winchester were not at full strength, and Chesham took full advantage passing the ball around comfortably.  Their first goal came from new signing Jo Horwood who curled her corner directly into the net.   Euman and Smith then saw efforts kept out by an excellent visiting keeper and Lambert saw her effort rattle off the bar.

Emma Delves deep corner found captain Campbell at the back post and she finished well. On the half hour Fraser rounded the keeper and although her first effort was saved, she tucked away the rebound to take a 3-0 lead into the interval.

At the start of the second half Sarah Hazell and youngster Emily Osgerby came into the back line. Lidia Niederstubbesing-Lopez also came on and joined the attack.  She had a couple of opportunities but couldn’t shake off the Winchester defence. Fifteen minutes into the second half Tash Smith put a good ball into Fraser who managed to get to it first and slip it past the keeper.  Nat Adams came on and although opened up the defence could not get past the Winchester keeper.

With minutes remaining Chesham gave away the ball out wide and, with the defence exposed, Winchester managed to squeeze the ball past Masella for a late consolation.

Squad: Masella, Campbell, Darvill (Hazel) Harris (Osgerby) Horwood, Gladwin, Delves, Smith (Adams) Bowers (Euman) Lambert (Niederstubbesing-Lopez) Fraser
