Match Report

Chesham United Ladies made it in to the 1st round proper of the Womens FA Cup with a 2-1 win against a good Sussex side.  Whytleafe promoted last season and unbeaten this season, were confident and well organised.   Chesham were without both Kate Bowers and Jo Horwood, Sarah Hazell returned to the starting 11, and welcomed in youngsters Lidia Niedesstubbig Lopez, and Jess Potts.    The visitors started brightly and passed the ball round well, Chesham looked a little leggy and were second to everything in the early encounters.  Lucia’s Masella’s handling was excellent, and Chesham defence had to be at their best to keep Whyteleafe out.  Kirsty Gladwin and Sarah Hazell had put a shift in the midfield but when  Delves had to be treated for 5 minutes with a head injury, and while she was off the pitch Whyteleafe took the lead with a well taken header from a corner.  Just before the interval Fraser burst down the left and crossed for Euman who shot agonisingly wide.  The visitors were deservedly 1-0 up at the interval, Chesham had to speed up their attack so brought Nat Adams into the action.

Immediately Chesham looked a threat with Adams running at defenders and creating space for others.  A corner saw Campbell head against the far post but Adams tenacity poked the ball  over the line for the equaliser.   Whyteleafes keeper produced some excellent saves as Chesham looked for the winner.  Fraser had a chance but the keeper saved well, when Masella was beaten captain Campbell was on hand to clear off the line as Whyteleafe dug deep to try and win the game.  The telling moment came when Chesham’s two wingers combined, Tash Smith crossed for Paula Lambert (pictured) to tuck home a rare goal at the far post, much to the delight of her team mates.  Whyteleafe looked tired but kept pressing and after 120 minutes of football the previous weekend some of the Chesham players were struggling, Smith was replace by Lopez, and Captain Campbell had to be replaced by Jess Potts but the youngster's carried the team over the line and into the draw for the first round proper.  Draw is Monday 9th 1pm.

This weekend Chesham travel to Winchester for the next round of the league cup.
